GE ES44DC

Diesel and Electric Locomotives

The ES44DC is the direct current traction version of GE's 4,400 horsepower Evolution Series locomotive. It replaced the Dash 9-44CW in the General Electric catalogue and was built from 2005 to 2010. Its primary users are BNSF Railway, CSX Transportation and Canadian National Railway. For the Australian iron ore railways GE also produced a lengthened international variant, the ES44DCi, ordered by Pilbara Iron, whose longer body carries a larger radiator to cope with the heat of the outback. Like every Evolution Series locomotive it is powered by the GE GEVO engine, and it was the direct current counterpart to the ES44AC.
