GE ES44ACi

Diesel and Electric Locomotives

The ES44ACi is the international version of the alternating current Evolution Series locomotive, built for the Roy Hill and Rio Tinto railways in Australia. Like the ES44DCi it is essentially an ES44AC in the body of a GE AC6000CW, with the radiator at the end protruding over the rear deck. Roy Hill ordered 21 and has all of them, numbered 1001 to 1021, Rio Tinto has 21 numbered 9100 to 9120, and Ferromex acquired 50. Because they were built after the new United States environmental laws, GE catalogued them only as ES44ACi, and they can no longer re-enter the United States. In Brazil the Rumo, Suzano and MRS Logística railways bought 25 units built by Wabtec of Brazil with broad-gauge trucks.
