GE Dash 8-32B

Diesel and Electric Locomotives

The GE Dash 8-32B, also classified as the B32-8 or D8-32B by some railroads, is a four-axle, 3,150 horsepower diesel-electric freight locomotive that GE Transportation built between 1984 and 1989 as part of the Dash 8 Series. Forty-nine were built for North American railroads. It is a 12-cylinder version of the 16-cylinder Dash 8-40B and is powered by GE's 7FDL engine. The first units, for Burlington Northern, were labelled B32-8 by GE, while later Norfolk Southern units used the Dash 8 spelling. The Dash 8-32BWH is a variant with head end power and a wide cab for Amtrak. Norfolk Southern number 3563 is preserved, and the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad runs three.
