GE C36-7

Diesel and Electric Locomotives

The GE C36-7 is a six-axle diesel-electric freight locomotive built between 1978 and 1989 by GE Transportation Systems, GE do Brasil and A Goninan and Co. of Australia. It was developed as an updated GE U36C and uses a 16-cylinder GE FDL-series prime mover, with 3,600 or 3,750 horsepower ratings depending on the customer. It looks much like the C30-7 but has larger air intakes under the radiator section. Of 602 built, 422 were exported to China, where they are designated China Railways ND5, GE do Brasil built 15 for the Mexican national railways, and three Hamersley Iron units from Australia later came to the United States. In 2003, 58 former Missouri Pacific units went to Estonia.
