The GE C30-7 is a six-axle diesel-electric locomotive that GE Transportation Systems built between September 1976 and May 1986. It was developed as an updated version of the U30C and is powered by a 16-cylinder GE FDL-series diesel engine rated at 3,000 horsepower. A total of 1,137 units were built for North American railroads, and the C36-7 succeeded it. Variants include the C30-7A, bought by Conrail in 1984 with a 12-cylinder engine of the same power, some of which were later rebuilt and exported to Estonia and Finland, and the C30-S7 Super 7 rebuild program, which put Dash 8 technology into old Universal Series units, mostly for Mexican railroads. Preserved examples include Louisville and Nashville 7067.
