Fiat 680RN

The Fiat 680 RN was an urban and interurban bus made by the bus division of Fiat V.I., a branch of the Italian Fiat group. It was launched in 1949 to replace the old Fiat 666RN. Like all models in the world at the time, it used a lowered chassis derived from an existing truck, with the engine at the front, in a position cumbersome for passenger access and driving. Of the standard Italian length of 10 metres, it had the same engine as the truck, the Fiat 368, an inline six of 10,170 cubic centimetres developing 123 horsepower DIN, with its maximum torque at only 900 revolutions. This engine proved very robust, reliable and economical. The driving position was on the right as the Italian highway code required. The 680 RN was also built in an urban version called the 680 RNU, and Fiat supplied chassis to coachbuilders including Barbi, Bianchi, Dalla Via, Menarini, Orlandi and Viberti.
