Fiat 666RN

Buses and Road Mass Transit Vehicles

The Fiat 666 RN was a bus made by the bus division of Fiat V.I., a branch of the Italian Fiat group. It was launched just after the Second World War, in 1948, to develop urban and road transport for Italians, replacing the Fiat 656RN. Like all models in the world at that time, it used the lowered chassis derived from an existing truck, with the engine at the front, in a position cumbersome for passenger access and driving. Of the standard Italian length of 10 metres, it was fitted with the same engine as the truck, the Fiat 366.45, a six cylinder of 9365 cubic centimetres developing 113 horsepower DIN in its original version. This engine proved very robust, reliable and economical in diesel fuel. The driving position was on the right, as the Italian highway code then required. The 666 RN went through several series, with the basic Fiat Cansa model supported by versions bodied by coachbuilders such as Barbi, Bianchi and Dalla Via.
