Fiat 6601

The Fiat 6601 CM 52 is a truck for specifically military use, carrying equipment and troops, designed and produced by the Italian maker Fiat V.I. from 1952 to meet the needs of the Italian armies after the Second World War. It was derived from the well known Fiat 639 truck, launched in its civil version in 1950. After the war the Italian army had to be rebuilt, and much of its equipment had been destroyed in the bombing of 1942 or seized by the German army after the armistice of 1943. From 1950 the restructured army began to buy new equipment, and wanting to renew its fleet of medium load carriers of 4 to 5 tonnes it chose the Fiat 639 and asked for a military version that also met NATO requirements. The army named it, by its tradition, CM 52, a medium truck with four-wheel drive approved in 1952.
