The Fiat 470 is a bus model produced from 1979 by Fiat Veicoli Industriali, shortly after it had passed to the new corporate name of Iveco. Still branded as Fiat, it existed in three versions: urban, suburban, called the Fiat 570, and short-range interurban, called the Fiat 670. By the mid 1970s Fiat's urban bus production had two models, the 421, a flagship for large fleets that proved a poor commercial success, and the smaller and more flexible 418, which sold well but was conceptually obsolete. A completely new model was therefore urgent. The 470, 570 and 670 used the Fiat 8220.10 engine, an inline six giving 203 horsepower and mounted horizontally at the rear, a particular solution when engines had been at the front or centre until then, and all were diesel. The Iveco Effeuno replaced it from 1984, though the last 470s were delivered in 1986.
