The EMW R 35 was a single-cylinder four-stroke motorcycle built at Eisenach in Thuringia from the end of the Second World War until 1955. It continued the BMW R 35 of 1937. When production was ordered to restart in November 1945 as a reparation to the Soviet Union, the works assembled machines from parts that had been stored in nearby mine shafts, at first still with the BMW emblem, and from 1952 under the name of the Eisenacher Motorenwerk. The improved R 35/3 of that year had a lengthened frame and a damped straight-line rear suspension. German sources record around 90,000 postwar R 35 machines in all, about 27,000 of them exported, and the end of the R 35/3 in 1955 closed motorcycle building at Eisenach. A motorcycle archive page gives the R 35/3 engine as a 342 cc single.
