Emma Maersk

Emma Maersk is a container ship built for Danish shipping company Maersk Line, delivered in 2006 as the lead ship of the Maersk E-class and, at the time of her launch, the largest container ship in the world by capacity, able to carry more than eleven thousand standard shipping containers. Built with a waste-heat recovery system that fed power back into her propulsion machinery to improve fuel efficiency, she was named after the wife of the company's founder and operated primarily on major trade routes between Asia and Europe, and though later surpassed in size by successive generations of even larger container ships, she was widely covered at her launch as a symbol of the scale reached by modern global container shipping.
