The Dornier Do R Superwal was a flying boat airliner designed and built by Dornier as a larger development of the Do J Wal. It had a bigger high-mounted strut-braced monoplane wing and a longer fuselage, and all but the first three built had four engines instead of two. It typically carried 21 passengers in two cabins. The first R 2 Superwal made its maiden flight on 30 September 1926, and the R 4 version set twelve world records for seaplanes in early 1927. Deutsche Luft Hansa and the Italian airline SANA operated Superwals, and the Spanish Aviacion Militar also flew them.
