Dornier Do 28

General Aviation and Light Aircraft

Dornier Do 28 is a designation covering two different twin-engine STOL utility aircraft built by the German company Dornier Flugzeugbau: the Do 28 A/B of 1959 and the Do 28 D Skyservant of 1966. The Do 28 was developed from the single-engine Do 27 at the end of the 1950s, sharing its high-wing cantilever layout, its lift augmentation devices and a rear fuselage seating six passengers. The prototype first flew on 29 April 1959 with two Lycoming O-360 engines, and the first Do 28D flew on 23 February 1966 and was shown at the Paris Air Show in June 1967. Most served with the German Air Force and Marineflieger and other air forces in the communications and utility role, among them 121 Do 28D-2 aircraft built between 1971 and 1974 for the Bundeswehr.
