Dornier Do 27

General Aviation and Light Aircraft

The Dornier Do 27 was a German single-engine STOL utility aircraft designed and manufactured by Dornier, and the first mass-produced aircraft in Germany after the Second World War. It grew out of the Do 25, developed at Dornier's facilities in Spain to meet a Spanish military requirement for a light utility aircraft with short take-off and landing performance; Spain did not select the Do 25, but Dornier developed it further into the Do 27, which was produced in quantity in both Spain and Germany. The original prototype first flew in Spain on 27 June 1955, and the first German-built aircraft flew on 17 October 1956. Forty were built in Spain by CASA as the CASA-127, many export customers such as Portugal followed, and some examples were still in use in the twenty-first century.
