Dornier Do 214

Flying Boats and Seaplanes

The Dornier Do 214 was a proposed large long-range flying boat developed by Dornier in the Second World War. It began as the Do P.93 for passenger transatlantic service from Lisbon to New York and was redesigned as the P.192 for military service in early 1940. A full-sized fuselage mockup was built in 1941. The two-deck design was to have eight coupled Daimler-Benz DB 613 engines driving four tractor and four pusher propellers, and to serve as a transport with a bow door, a long-range bomber, a tanker, a minelayer and a U-boat supply vessel. By 1943 long-range flying boats were judged unneeded and the project was cancelled.
