Dornier Do 12

Flying Boats and Seaplanes

The Dornier Do 12 Libelle III, meaning Dragonfly III, was the third of a line of small German flying boats of the 1930s, though it was an entirely new aircraft rather than a continuation of the Libelle I and II. It was an amphibious high-wing monoplane of Dornier all-metal construction carrying three to four passengers, with its engine mounted on a stand above the wing in a pusher arrangement. It first flew in 1932 with an underpowered Argus engine and was later fitted with a Gnome-Rhone Titan. The DFS used it to tow gliders, and the missionary Father Paul Schulte flew one for many years.
