The de Havilland DH.82 Tiger Moth is a British two-seat training biplane of the 1930s, designed by Geoffrey de Havilland and built by the de Havilland Aircraft Company. It grew out of the DH.60 Moth line and the DH.60T military trainer, and its prototype made its first flight at Stag Lane Aerodrome on 26 October 1931. The Royal Air Force adopted it as its basic ab initio trainer, and in the Second World War it also flew maritime surveillance, anti-invasion preparations and some armed light bomber roles. Production was shared with builders in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and several European countries, and Morris Motors alone completed more than three thousand. After the war many surplus machines passed to civilian owners, and the type is still flown for recreation and for trial lessons by pilots seeking tailwheel experience.
