The DB Class 218 is a class of four-axle diesel-hydraulic locomotives acquired by the Deutsche Bundesbahn for both passenger and freight service on main and secondary lines. It became one of the mainstays of West Germany's, and later reunified Germany's, non-electrified rail network for decades after its introduction.
