The DB Class 101 is an electric locomotive introduced in 1996 by Deutsche Bahn, the German national railway operator, built by the manufacturer Adtranz, later absorbed into Bombardier Transportation. It was designed for high speed InterCity and EuroCity passenger service, capable of running at up to 220 kilometers per hour, and it became the standard locomotive for Germany's premier long distance passenger trains through the following decades.
