Dallara AV-21

Automobiles

The Dallara AV-21 is the autonomous racing car introduced for the first Indy Autonomous Challenge in 2021, the competition in which university teams from around the world write the driving software for a common vehicle. It is the specific model of the custom-built Dallara AV single-seater that was developed in 2021 by Clemson University in the Deep Orange project and presented at CES 2021. The AV-21 was derived from Dallara's IL-15 Indy Lights chassis, with the sensors, actuators and computing hardware needed for fully autonomous driving added to it. It is rear-wheel drive, powered by an internal combustion engine producing 335 kW (449 hp) through a six-speed sequential gearbox, and it perceives its surroundings with six monochrome cameras, four radars, three lidars and an RTK GPS. A Dallara AV-21 set the autonomous land speed record of 309.3 km/h on the Kennedy Space Center runway in April 2022. The AV-24 later replaced its hardware and software platform.
