The CSR Ziyang SDA1 is a high-powered diesel-electric locomotive built by CRRC Ziyang, the Sichuan locomotive works that was part of China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock before the merger that created CRRC, together with the German engine maker MTU Friedrichshafen. It is a Co-Co machine designed for Australian standard-gauge mainline freight, with a quoted initial specification of a 120 kilometre per hour top speed, a mass of 134 tonnes, a 20V4000R43L engine, alternating-current traction controlled by IGBT converters and a Wabtec braking system. It was the first Chinese-built locomotive exported to Australia: SCT Logistics ordered six in September 2010, four more followed in March 2011 and the first unit was unveiled at Ziyang on 22 July 2011. Testing in 2012 included an iron ore train hauled between Port Augusta and Adelaide, and the class was cleared for mainline running that March. Bradken and Qube Logistics also ordered units, and SCT ordered twelve more in 2021.
