The Convair Model 116 ConvAirCar was a prototype roadable aircraft built to exploit the post-war aviation market, designed by Theodore Hall and Tommy Thompson of Consolidated Vultee and featured in Popular Mechanics in 1946. It combined a two-seat car body with a small rear engine and a detachable monoplane wing and tail boom carrying its own 90 horsepower Franklin flight engine. The sole prototype flew on 12 July 1946 with Russell Rogers at the controls and made 66 test flights. It led to the more refined Model 118, but neither type reached production and the rights returned to Hall.
