Convair 106 Skycoach

General Aviation and Light Aircraft

The Convair Model 106 Skycoach was an experimental four-seat light aircraft designed and built by the Stinson Division of Convair at the end of World War II. It had a pusher layout with a fixed spatted tricycle undercarriage and twin tail booms flanking the propeller, with the pilot and three passengers in a cabin in the fuselage nacelle ahead of a 230 horsepower Franklin six-cylinder piston engine. Flight tests at San Diego found the performance unexceptional, with a top speed of 142 miles per hour against a Beechcraft Bonanza that cruised at 165 miles per hour on less power. Convair abandoned development and scrapped the sole prototype in 1947.
