Chrysler ME Four-Twelve

Automobiles

The ME Four-Twelve was a mid-engine concept car built by Chrysler in 2004, its name combining mid-engine with four turbochargers on a twelve-cylinder engine. Two cars were made. The first was an auto show vehicle unveiled at the 2004 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, designed by a small team during 2003 with exterior styling by Brian Nielander, and Chrysler then announced a fully engineered running prototype that journalists could evaluate on a track by summer 2004. It used a carbon-fibre and aluminium honeycomb tub, a carbon-fibre body and a modified 6.0 litre Mercedes-Benz V12 with four turbochargers, said to produce 850 horsepower through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Chrysler claimed 0 to 60 miles per hour in 2.9 seconds and a top speed near 248 miles per hour, figures that would have made it the fastest road-going car of its day.
