China Railways DF2

The DF2, originally designated ND2, is a diesel-electric shunting locomotive of China Railways and one of the representative first-generation diesel locomotives with electric transmission. Together with the DF and DF3 it is grouped as the old Dongfeng locomotives. The Qishuyan Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works completed it in 1964 with a single six-cylinder two-stroke 6L207E diesel engine of 1,080 horsepower, for shunting at large junction stations and marshalling yards and for short local runs. A total of 148 were built between 1964 and 1986, 145 of them by Qishuyan and three by the Chengdu Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works. In 1967 Qishuyan also built a single DF2 Zeng prototype with a turbocharged 6L207EZ engine rated at 1,800 horsepower for mainline passenger and freight work, which never entered series production. Preserved examples include number 3279 at the Yunnan Railway Museum in Kunming.
