China Railway DJJ2

Passenger Rolling Stock and High-Speed Trainsets

The DJJ2 China Star is an experimental Chinese high-speed electric multiple unit that was designed in China and built by the Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Works, a CSR subsidiary, as a development of the earlier DJJ1 Blue Arrow train. A trainset consists of two power cars and nine passenger cars, with a design top speed of 270 km/h and room for 726 passengers at full load. The prototype rolled out in 2002 and reached 321 km/h on the newly built Qinshen Passenger Railway line during a test run in late 2002, which set a Chinese train speed record. Commercial service was held up by signal system mismatches and problems in the electrical and brake systems. The train entered passenger service between Qinhuangdao and Shenyang in 2005, limited to 160 km/h, and the service was discontinued in 2006. One power car and three passenger cars were moved to the China Railway Museum, the first high-speed train displayed there, and the other power car is displayed at the Steam Locomotive Gallery of Shenyang.
