The Cessna 401 and 402 are a series of six to ten seat light twin-piston aircraft whose seats are easily removable so that the cabin can be used for cargo. Neither is pressurized nor particularly fast for its installed power; Cessna intended them to be inexpensive to buy and operate, a workhorse for cargo operators and small commuter airlines, and developed them from the Cessna 411 to improve on its poor single-engine handling and avoid its expensive geared engines. They are powered by turbocharged Continental engines of 300 horsepower with three-bladed constant-speed propellers. The 402 was introduced in 1967 with a large cargo door, the 401 was the version without it, and the nose was stretched in 1969 to create the 402A, followed by the 402B in 1970 with optional larger fuel tanks.
