Cessna 175 Skylark

General Aviation and Light Aircraft

The Cessna 175 is a four-seat, single-engine, high-wing light aircraft that Cessna built from 1958 to 1962, producing 2,106 in total. It sat between the 172 and the larger 182 in the company line, and used a geared version of the Continental engine of the 172, rated at 175 horsepower, which is 30 horsepower more than the contemporary 172 offered. A deluxe version with extra equipment and full exterior paint carried the Skylark name from the 1960 model year. Its stepped firewall, longer cowl and relocated instrument panel were later fitted to the 172 from the 172B model. Declining sales, which the article ties to a reputation for poor engine reliability, led Cessna to drop the 175 and Skylark names, though 175-based R172 aircraft and the military T-41 Mescalero trainer continued.
