Cargo Bicycle

A cargo bicycle is a bicycle or tricycle built with an extended or reinforced frame and a dedicated load-carrying area, typically a front box, rear rack or elongated wheelbase, designed to carry heavy or bulky goods, and sometimes passengers, that an ordinary bicycle cannot accommodate. The type has a long history in delivery and trade use in cities such as Amsterdam and Copenhagen, where cargo bicycles have long served as everyday utility vehicles for shopping, deliveries and transporting children, and it has seen renewed international growth in the twenty first century as urban delivery services and electrically assisted models have made carrying substantial loads by bicycle practical over longer distances and hillier terrain. Its use has been promoted in many cities as a lower emission alternative to delivery vans for short-distance urban freight.
