The British Rail Class 20 is a type of diesel electric locomotive introduced by British Railways beginning in 1957, built with a single cab at one end, which led crews to normally run two units coupled nose to nose for visibility in both directions of travel. Despite a modest top speed, its reliability kept large numbers in freight and engineering train service for decades, longer than many later, more powerful classes.
