Bristol SU

Buses and Road Mass Transit Vehicles

The Bristol SU, standing for small, underfloor-engined, was a single-decker bus and coach chassis built by Bristol Commercial Vehicles between 1960 and 1966. It used the Albion EN250 engine and a BMC rear axle also found in the Albion Nimbus, with a five-speed David Brown gearbox, but placed the radiator at the extreme front of the chassis. Bodies were built by Eastern Coach Works, only 7 feet 6 inches wide, with a forward entrance opposite the driver. About three quarters were built for the shared Southern National and Western National fleet in south-west England. Sixteen are known to survive in preservation, and the Bristol LH later took over as the lightweight chassis.
