The Bristol MW, MW standing for Medium Weight, was a bus and coach chassis designed and built by Bristol Commercial Vehicles at Brislington in Bristol between 1956 and 1966. A horizontal engine sat under the floor between the axles, which allowed an entrance ahead of the front axle and a flat floor suited to one-man operation. It replaced the integral Bristol LS and let the underframe be sold to outside bodybuilders. Every MW used a Gardner 5HLW or 6HLW engine, giving the designations MW5G and MW6G, and an air spring option was offered from 1962 for coach work. It was built to the then legal limits of 8 feet wide and 30 feet long, and 1,965 chassis were made.
