Bristol LH

Buses and Road Mass Transit Vehicles

The Bristol LH was a lightweight single-decker bus and coach chassis with a horizontal engine, built by Bristol Commercial Vehicles in Bristol between 1967 and 1982. The letters stand for Lightweight chassis, Horizontal engine. It replaced the Bristol SU and was offered beside the heavier Bristol RE for operators needing a smaller bus. The standard chassis was 30 feet long, with a short LHS and a long LHL also built, and buyers chose a Leyland or Perkins six-cylinder diesel. Nearly 2,000 were built in all, 1,505 standard LH, 174 LHL and 308 LHS. Bodies came from Eastern Coach Works for most buses and from Plaxton for most coaches, and a handful were built as delivery vans.
