The Bristol K was a double deck bus chassis introduced in 1937 to replace the G. It arrived when the Tilling Group had settled on the diesel engine as its standard power unit, which began a period of many decades in which Bristol chassis were fitted with Gardner diesel engines. Many Bristol chassis were taken to Eastern Coach Works at Lowestoft, another Tilling Group member, where bodies were added, the unbodied chassis being driven between the two towns. Larger versions were offered as the law changed to allow greater width and length. The K was in turn followed by the radically different Lodekka, a low height double deck design that was tested in prototype form in 1949.
