Boeing Model 8

Pioneer and Early Aviation Aircraft

The Boeing Model 8, also known as the BB-L6, was an American three-seat biplane that Boeing designed for its own test pilot, Herb Munter. The design drew on the Italian Ansaldo A.1 Balilla and used a fuselage skinned in mahogany plywood, with a forward cockpit for two passengers and the pilot seated behind them, an arrangement that became standard for Boeing three-seaters that followed. Its wings and engine were close to those of the Boeing Model 7. It first flew in 1920 and was the first aircraft to fly over Mount Rainier. The only example was destroyed in a hangar fire at Kent, Washington, in 1923.
