The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress is an American long range, subsonic, jet powered strategic bomber that first flew in 1952 and entered service in 1955. Successive B-52 airframes have remained in active United States Air Force service for decades through ongoing modernization, giving it one of the longest continuous operational histories of any military aircraft.
