BMX Bike

The BMX bike is a small, sturdy single-speed bicycle developed in the United States in the late 1960s and early 1970s by young riders imitating motocross motorcycle racing on pedal bikes, giving the sport and the machine its name, bicycle motocross. Built around a compact frame, small wheels typically twenty inches in diameter, knobby tires, and a single low gear, the design favors quick acceleration, tight maneuverability and durability under repeated jumps and impacts over speed or comfort on long rides. What began as an informal backyard and dirt-track pastime grew into an organized racing and freestyle sport with dedicated tracks and competitions, and BMX racing became an Olympic cycling discipline at the 2008 Beijing Games.
