The BMW R32 is a German motorcycle introduced in 1923, the first complete motorcycle built by BMW and notable for introducing the transverse mounted flat twin engine and shaft drive layout that BMW motorcycles have used in various forms ever since. Its release established BMW as a motorcycle manufacturer following the company's earlier work building aircraft engines.
