Avro Club Cadet

General Aviation and Light Aircraft

The Avro Club Cadet was a single-engined British biplane trainer of the 1930s, designed and built by Avro as a development of the Cadet for private and club use. Unlike the Cadet it had unstaggered wings that could be folded to save hangar space. The prototype flew in May 1933 with an Armstrong Siddeley Genet Major radial piston engine, sixteen more followed and production finished in 1935. Most went to flying schools, the largest user being Airwork with five, later re-engined with 130 hp de Havilland Gipsy Major inline engines. The type also led to the one-off enclosed Avro 639 Cabin Cadet and the nine-aircraft, three-seat Avro 640 Cadet built for joy-riding.
