Avro 560

General Aviation and Light Aircraft

The Avro 560 was a British single-engined ultralight monoplane built by Avro at Hamble Aerodrome for the 1923 light aircraft trials for single-seaters at Lympne Aerodrome. It was a cantilever high-wing monoplane of wood-and-fabric construction powered by a 698 cc Blackburne Tomtit engine. Bert Hinkler flew it in the trials held in October 1923, where it did well and recorded an average of 63.3 miles per Imperial gallon. The Air Ministry evaluated the aircraft after the trials but did not choose it for further development.
