The ALCO RSC-3 was a road switcher type diesel-electric locomotive rated at 1,600 horsepower that rode on three-axle trucks in an A1A-A1A wheel arrangement. It was used much like its four-axle counterpart the RS-3, but the load on each axle was spread out so it could operate on the light rail found on branch lines. It had much better success as an export unit than in the domestic market, and surviving examples are found in Australia, Brazil, Canada and Portugal, including New South Wales Government Railways 4001 and 4002, PGE 561 at the Railway Museum of British Columbia and Portuguese 1525, still operating with Somafel.
