ALCO Century 425

Diesel and Electric Locomotives

The ALCO Century 425, or C425, was a four-axle diesel-electric locomotive rated at 2,500 horsepower, cataloged as part of ALCO's Century line as an upgraded version of the C424. It used the same main generator as General Electric's U25B and was powered by a 16-cylinder ALCO 251 engine. Ninety-one were built between October 1964 and December 1966, with the C430 later following as a further upgrade. Several have remained in service on shortline railroads, and the Livonia, Avon and Lakeville Railroad in New York worked a C425 alongside a C420 in 2007.
