The Airbus E-Fan was a prototype two-seater all-electric aircraft developed by Airbus Group with Aero Composites Saintonge and aimed at pilot training. It is a twin-motor low-wing monoplane of composite construction with a T-tail and retractable tandem landing gear, propelled by two ducted variable-pitch fans driven by electric motors totalling 60 kilowatts and powered by lithium polymer battery packs. It was flown in front of the world press at the Farnborough Airshow in July 2014, and on 9 July 2015 crossed the English Channel from Lydd to Calais, billed by Airbus as the first all-electric two-engine aircraft to do so. Two production variants had been planned, the E-Fan 2.0 trainer and the four-seat E-Fan 4.0, but Airbus cancelled production in April 2017 to concentrate on a proposed hybrid-electric regional aircraft.
