Airbus Vahana

Lighter-Than-Air Craft and Rotorcraft

The Airbus Vahana was an electric-powered, eight-propeller vertical take-off and landing personal air vehicle prototype, or eVTOL, financed by A-cubed, the Silicon Valley projects and partnerships outpost of Airbus, together with Airbus Urban Mobility. The project began in 2016 as one of the first at A-cubed, with the aim of a cost-comparable replacement for short-range urban transport such as cars or trains, as part of urban air mobility. The prototype Vahana Alpha One was shown at the Paris Air Show in June 2017 and made its first flight on 31 January 2018 at Pendleton, Oregon, reaching five metres in 53 seconds. The longest single flight lasted 19 minutes 56 seconds and the longest distance covered was 50.24 kilometres. The project finished in December 2019.
