The CBR1000F had a cosmetic makeover in 1989, with the front fairing completely redesigned. Honda improved the front suspension and fitted bigger tires to help with the weight of the bike and to take radial tires, and it improved the cam chain tensioner to try to get rid of the cam chain rattle that some riders had reported. The 1989 model also had its power slightly increased, and it gained weight.
