FMC Corporation is an American manufacturer that began in 1883 as the Bean Spray Pump Company, making insecticide sprayers for California orchards, and was renamed FMC from its Food Machinery Corporation days. Its ordnance work started in 1941 with a contract to design and build amphibious tracked landing vehicles for the United States Department of War, and the company later built the M113 armored personnel carrier, the Bradley Fighting Vehicle and the XR311 at its Santa Clara facility. It also built fire engines and, for a few years from 1972, motorcoaches. Its defense business was later spun into United Defense. Today the company is a chemical maker headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and this entry covers its record as a builder of vehicles.
