Benetton is the make under which Benetton Formula Limited built its Formula One cars from 1986 to 2001. The team was formed in 1985 when the Toleman team was sold to the Benetton family, owners of the clothing chain, and its first car, the B186, was the renamed Toleman TG186. Benetton cars used BMW engines in 1986, Ford engines from 1987 to 1994 and Renault V10 engines from 1995, and the make won its first Grand Prix in Mexico in 1986. The team was chaired by Alessandro Benetton from 1988 to 1998, moved from Witney to a new factory near Enstone, and was bought by Renault in 2000; it raced as Benetton for the 2000 and 2001 seasons before becoming Renault in 2002.
