Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation is an American aircraft company and a subsidiary of General Dynamics that designs, develops, manufactures, markets and services business jet aircraft, and it has produced more than 2,000 aircraft since 1958. The line began in the late 1950s when Grumman developed the twin turboprop Grumman Gulfstream I for business travel, followed by the jet-powered Gulfstream II, which on 4 May 1968 became the first business jet to fly nonstop from the United States to Europe. Grumman moved its civilian aircraft operations to Savannah, Georgia in 1966, and Gulfstream has its headquarters there today. The business later passed to American Jet Industries, which renamed it Gulfstream American under Allen Paulson, and General Dynamics purchased it in 1999. In 2001 it acquired Galaxy Aerospace, whose Astra SPX and Galaxy models were later rebranded the Gulfstream G100 and G200.
