Renault OX

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Renault Type OX was the first series-built truck with two driven rear axles (6x4) in the three-tonne class and was used mainly by the military but also by civilians. Renault built it after the light Type MH had shown that three-axle trucks with two driven rear axles had outstanding cross-country ability. It was widely praised but hardly bought: the French army took six in July 1925 for Morocco, three went to Syria in 1927, the French air force and navy air arm took about a dozen, and Poland took at least 72. Production ran from 1925 to 1927, with a few more bus versions delivered until 1931, and about 100 were built in all. It had a water-cooled four-cylinder petrol engine of 5,027 cc with a bore of 100 mm and a stroke of 160 mm, the radiator behind the engine, and it became the forefather of many later 6x4 three-tonne trucks.
