Mercedes-Benz LG 315/46

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Mercedes-Benz LG 315/46 was a military truck of the 5-tonne class made by Daimler-Benz and bought by the Bundeswehr from 1958 to 1964. It remained in service until the last examples were retired from 1976. It belonged to the first generation of Bundeswehr wheeled vehicles and was introduced together with the MAN 630, because the favoured manufacturer MAN could not deliver enough trucks while the force was being built up. Its design came from the wartime L 4500, via the LG 6600, and with its later 4.60 metre wheelbase it counts as a variant of the Mercedes-Benz L 315. It was a two-axle, single-tyred, four-wheel-drive truck with a 145 horsepower multi-fuel pre-chamber diesel of 8,276 cubic centimetres and a six-speed ZF gearbox. About 6,600 were delivered as flatbed, pioneer equipment carrier and fire-service vehicles.
